  2. Step 2PositionBuild the documents and identify the buyer profiles most likely to pay for what you built.
  3. Step 3ApproachLead targeted, confidential discussions with qualified buyers in Quebec, Canada and the United States.
  4. Step 4CloseCompare offers, negotiate terms and manage due diligence through closing.

Why it matters

Your buyer does this every day. Now, so do you.

Moses sat on the National Bank private equity team, which invested in 18 companies and reviewed hundreds more. He knows how a fund values a business, what it checks first and where it negotiates. On a sale, that knowledge works for you.

“A listed group valued at 12 times EBITDA can pay 7 times for your company and still create value. That gap is where you negotiate.”

What owners ask.

How long does a sale take?

Typically 6 to 12 months from the start of the mandate to closing. Preparing the company beforehand can take longer, which is why it pays to start the conversation early.

When should I start preparing to sell?

It can be useful to begin up to 24 months in advance. That time can improve earnings quality, reduce owner dependence, strengthen the leadership team and prepare financial information.

How is an M&A advisor paid?

It depends on the size and complexity of the transaction. Fees are set for each mandate.

Is the first conversation confidential?

Yes. The initial conversation is confidential and does not commit you to a process.

Can you approach buyers in the United States?

Yes. Depending on the mandate, the right buyer or partner may be in Québec, elsewhere in Canada or the United States. Tribal Capital can work with 1858 Capital Partners when appropriate.
